Calling the U.S. presidential hopeful “the man of the moment,”Donatella Versace dedicated her Spring-Summer 2009 collection presented Saturday evening to Obama, creating a style she said was designed for “a relaxed man who doesn’t need to flex muscles to show he has power.”
Chatting with reporters in the cool of the garden of her private palazzo in downtown Milan at an after-show dinner party, the designer also had some fashion tips for the campaign trail. “I would get rid of the tie and jazz up the shirt,” she said.
In fact, there were no ties in Donatella’s latest show, and shirts under jackets were either super easy with rolled up sleeves or replaced by a silk T-shirt.
The new Versace suithas a structured jacket softened by a double lapel or no lapel at all and slim trousers with slick techno-fabric sheen. Crazy zigzags break up the monotony of pinstripes and checks, while the pastel palette gives the collection a warm summer feel.
Sitting in the front row, actor Rupert Everett applauded enthusiastically, showing that even if it was not dedicated to him, he found the collection right up his alley.
Overall, this round of “moda Milanese” menswear preview collections, which ends Wednesday, promises to be all about chilling out, a refreshing thought in a Milan in the grip of this summer’s first heat wave.
The relaxed feel of the collections is epitomized by the return of the unlined jacket, which, when coupled with wide loose trousers, creates a casual yet elegant summer suit.

Like a superhero arriving in the nick of time, rapper Lil Wayne has swooped in to stem the tide, however briefly, of both the record business’ general slump and the steeper slide that rap music has suffered in recent years.
The New Orleans rhymer’s “Tha Carter III” has become the first album to top the 1 million sales mark during its first week in stores since 50 Cent’s “The Massacre” more than three years ago. It also is the first rap album to top the national sales chart since Jay-Z’s “American Gangster” held that spot in November.
“I’m sure there are people who thought we wouldn’t see a 1 million copy week again,” Geoff Mayfield, Billboard’s charts director, said Wednesday. “This doesn’t mean there isn’t trouble in the music business, but it does mean if you have the right record at the right time, it’s still possible.”
The fact that Lil Wayne, who is less a household name outside hip-hop circles than Jay-Z, Kanye West, Eminem or 50 Cent, managed to hit that threshold speaks to the groundswell of popularity he has generated through a string of singles and mix-tapes released over the Internet in the last year.
His single “Lollipop,” which he sang Monday at his release-week concert at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, is one of the year’s biggest hits. In recent weeks it has ridden high on both Billboard’s Hot 100, which measures radio airplay, physical and digital sales, and the magazine’s Hot Digital Tracks chart, indicating its popularity as a download.
“There had been a lot of anticipation building for the album,” Mayfield said. “It shipped 1.3 million copies, which is a number like the old days.”
It’s a dramatic step up for Lil Wayne, whose previous album, “Tha Carter II,” sold 238,000 copies during its first week in stores in 2005, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and peaked at No. 2 on the chart. The closest anyone has come to the 1 million sales week since 50 Cent was West, whose “Graduation” album logged a first-week figure of 957,000 last September.

It’s not the most glamorous way of debuting as a young power couple, but accidents happen (especially since the creation of TMZ).
Well, despite their pretty convincing denials, it was bound to come out. Because, as producer Yasmine Richard pointed out when she recently caught Chris Brown visiting the remote video set of Rihanna and Maroon 5’s collabo, “I got friends and I got a best friend, but not one of them will come out to visit my behind in the middle of nowhere…Only MY MAN…”

After the state of California overturned a ban on gay marriages, many expected a rash of same-sex marriages to be scheduled in the state. On the celeb side of things, it seems that Queen Latifah will be amongst the first big stars to marry her longterm partner.
Queen Latifah has been very tight-lipped about her relationship with Jenkins, and told Ebony magazine in 2007 that she would not comment on the rumor that Jenkins was her girlfriend. She didn’t deny it, she was just annoyed that she was asked.
“No comment on that at all. I’m done commenting on all that … It’s ridiculous, I know me and that’s all I need to know.
“And if the readers don’t know me, then that’s one part they aren’t going to get to know. Those are my people but they don’t sleep with me,” she says in a very even tone that is very consistent with her relaxed mood. “It feels so invasive. It’s the one thing I don’t think people need to know about.”
And then even before that, in 2006, she told Essence magazine:
“If I’m not going to tell you what guy I’m dating, I sure wouldn’t tell you I’m dating a girl.”
Neither Queen Latifah nor her partner have ever officially come out. Queen Latifah has, however, given her special friend attention and treatment that suggests they’re more than just good friends. Last year she bought Jeannette a Range Rover, and had it delivered to a restaurant to surprise her.
According to the National Enquirer, the couple are “planning an intimate ceremony with close famiy and friends.” They are also reportedly interested in adopting an American baby.
